New Sunday Post

Spring is still struggling to break free from Winter's grip. We had another light blanket of snow dust our ground. Many of the Spring flowers that had awoken from their wintry slumber are covered with the cold, wet precipitation left behind. I sure hope it passes and our flowers come back to life. I sure did want a great snow, but if we're getting snow, I want a LOT of snow, not just these dustings once in awhile. If not, then let's move on to Spring and be done with this cold weather already.

Due to this nasty weather we received during the night, our church service was cancelled this morning. I really enjoy the Sunday messages we get from church. It motivates me to continue my faith, it keeps me focused and keeps me on the right path with God. Kind of like training wheels for life. Not only do I enjoy the sermons and the singing, but being able to visit with the others in the church congregation and witnessing the joy in the children that attend as well. It really jump starts my week. The gloom of this cold winter doesn't hold a candle to the joy of God's word on a Sunday morning.

I was talking to the Sheriff this weekend and pointed out that this is the first weekend we haven't been on the road to watch a basketball game. I was a bit torn and somewhat emotional. It was bittersweet. One one hand, I'm sad that the season came to an end. On the other hand, it's time to close out this chapter of the school year and begin the next. All of our teams, junior girls/boys, senior high girls/boys had a fantastic run. Junior girls won their district tournament (3 years in a row. 3-peat!!). Good job girls and Coach Kelsey Hudson! You girls have good things coming in your future.

My heart is also pretty fond of our senior high boys as well. Maybe because one of those boys happens to be our son. I couldn't be any more proud of each of them and how they played during this season. The determination, stamina, ability to fly and steal the ball from the other players in the blink of an eye was amazing. Although most ball parents and fans watched the game in the stands, I watched every game from all over the gyms we visited and from behind my lens, capturing shots that I wanted to share with everyone and freeze that moment in time with these boys. The most emotional part of this year is four of our boys are seniors and this was the last high school basketball season. It's a hard pill to swallow and we could see how it affected them as well as the parents of these four outstanding young men. Each of these players showed good sportsmanship, grit, faith, not only in God, but in themselves and their teammates throughout the entire year. The season was full of blood, sweat and tears. Some tears of joy after a win; some tears of sadness and pain after a loss or injury. Never a dull moment went by watching these young men launch the ball toward the hoop or fly through the air like a torpedo heading to the goal not only to make the intended target, but make it without any trouble at all.

Andrew is a hidden talent that strikes when you're not looking. He's quiet and polite, but when Coach called on him to step in and fill a gap, it was pretty common for him to come down and drain a three-pointer when it was needed.
Darius is also a hidden talent. He was our secret three point weapon in some of our games. His presence on the floor brought the crowd of fans to their feet and raised the roof with their screams and cheers for him. His heart, determination and positive attitude is an inspiration to all who know him.
Hunter is the aviator of the team. Some say he can fly and with my lens, I've witnessed this amazing feat. His talent of cutting through the opposition with the speed of a cheetah and the nimbleness of a hawk on the wing is mind boggling; his skill of flying through the air to score and rebound, beyond comprehension.

Luke is our tall giant that was the Yen to the Hunter's Yang. This year was his first time to score a three pointer, which brought the fans to their feet with cheers!  He is such a driving force on the court and always has a smile on his face.

Each of these fine young men will forever hold a place in my heart and I will always consider them as one of my own. I have some motherly advice for all four of you. As the most memorable year of your adolescent life comes to a close, don't look back and second guess any of the decisions you made. Embrace each day you are given with vigor and faith and be happy you are blessed to have it. Keep your determination and grit because this world is cruel sometimes but if you have the drive and stamina like you show on that basketball court, you'll never stray from your intended goals in life. My most important advice I want to share with you is what I told our daughter during the same time in her life. Enjoy life, be adventurous while you can and make memories you can share. Experience life to the fullest so you can share stories with your children and grand children. But, always look to God first. And, thank you for accepting our son as one of you and for being such good friends for him.

I congratulate ALL the seniors of 2019 but the basketball seniors have my heart and I wish each of you the best life has to offer and pray you keep God with you through it all.
