As I sat in church this morning, my mind was overrun with thoughts, ideas and things I wanted to share today. It was like I had several people in my head talking at once. It was hard to keep things straight. I was concentrating on the sermon being preached along with all these thoughts floating around in my head. There are so many subjects I want to touch on, but overwhelming you isn't my goal. I want you to leave reading my blog thinking, "hmmm, she makes a good point."
So, with that, I wanted to touch on Faith and Winning. It's two things, but hear me out because they go hand in hand with what I'm going to lay out. Since the beginning of the school year, I've been faithfully following the basketball teams taking photos at just about all the games. I have watched the teams on and off the court, watched their mannerisms, watched their interactions with teammates and their competitors and some have shocked me with dismay and some have left me feeling pretty impressed. I've witnessed struggles, anger, triumphs, tears of utter joy and even tears of sadness and pain. I've prayed over these kids tirelessly. I've prayed for God to be with each and every one of them on and off the court; at school and away from school. I've witnessed on social media prayers voiced aloud for their fellow schoolmates who are in medical crisis- This warms my heart.
With all the tension and political correctness in today's society, our school can and does allow our children to continue to lift others up in prayer publicly and without hesitation. This alone is a very inspiring action that makes me so proud to be in this community. Witnessing these actions from our boys and girls in this young generation is Faith knocking on the door of our hearts and in the end our kids are Winning!
Not every door gets opened, but a note of invitation is there to come share when the time is right. Off the court these kids are winning the fight with the Devil.
I've witnessed some amazing skill in all the teams. The Senior teams have shown great dedication and tenacity with each passing game. There were some losses that were not well received and some didn't think were deserved. But, with each loss, a lesson was learned for the next. With each game players gained knowledge and just a little more faith in the ability to win the next game. But, sometimes in order to win, you have to lose it all. I don't mean lose all the games, I mean lose the mentality of winning the game for oneself. If each player focused specifically on winning the game just for themselves, the team wouldn't win many games. One player can't win a basketball game against five opposition players. That's what is called "stinkin' thinkin'" and it will get you nowhere fast.
Each player needs to have faith in their own ability as well as faith in their teammates' ability to work together. Without faith, you have nothing. Jesus teaches this throughout the Bible. With faith in Him, yourself and those around you, you can win anything you put your mind to. If you don't win, then, in my opinion, it's now a lesson that you are learning from God. You can't win everything every time, but you can sure try with faith on your side and in your heart.
So, with that, I hope that our Western Grove Senior Warrior Boys keep up the faith as they continue on to the State tournament. The opposition will be tough and brutal. The struggle will be real. I pray they stay positive, pray for guidance from Jesus in their practices and games and have faith in their teammates as well as their selves. If you have faith in the Lord Jesus, you will win in life.
