Hyacinths
Jonquils forgotten in the pasture
Beautiful blue flowers
My mind often imagines what it would have looked like back then with the jonquils, daffodils, hyacinths and tulips all in bloom. To see children running through the fields carefree and laughing. It's all just a faded memory to the Sheriff as this was where he spent much of his childhood. He treasured time fishing with his grandmother on the creek that runs through the property. We talked about the happy trips they would take, fishing poles and tackle boxes in hand, down the trail to the edge of the water. Hours were spent soaking in the love shared between them. Moments treasured and never forgotten even many years after her death. He learned from her and she learned from him. It all goes hand in hand. Love, patience, nurturing, discipline; all things that are necessary when you spend time with children.
- Loving someone other than yourself
- Patience to learn the needs of the child
- The ability to nurture and care for the every need of the child
- The ability to discipline not only the child but yourself
- Share the word of God and bring the child to the Lord's house
- Protect and defend their child when needed
We shouldn't hinder them from this for two reasons; for their sake and our sake. They need to learn about God from an early age and we need to continue to learn about God daily. God extended grace to children in a unique way. We, as parents, should make the salvation of our children a number one priority in our life. Don't just send them on their way because they are in the way. Children are a gift. We are to help them come to Jesus for salvation. That is our job as a parent.
Don't become a stumbling block to your children.
Love your children like there is no tomorrow because one day, there won't be a tomorrow. I know I want my children to have wonderful memories spent with us laughing and playing and knowing they were and are loved to this day. I will leave you with one last thing to remember about children:
Watch them,
Learn from them,
Be like them.
